If anyone who works for or has connections with Bell South or Telcove is reading this, tell us what it's going to take to get those OC3s back up and running. We will try to coordinate and make it happen.

Also, posted this earlier:

I've posted a mail to the NANOG (North American Network Operators Group) mailing lists.

This is where most of the people who operate network infrastructure gather, and I'm positive either someone from Bell/Telcove, or someone who has some contacts there will get the message soon.

Best of luck to you guys.

I might be able to help with the OC3 situation. Please email me at cragland@gmail.com with any contact info you have, company name, OC3 circuit ID's etc. Also if you have your old SBC contact that would help.

"All of our providers are dropping. We're down to one. We have enough fuel to keep us powered for a long time, but we could lose internet access soon if our last provider drops."

After reading the above I have submitted a request to EV1 Servers on your behalf. They have a carrier class data center in Houston and might be able to help out. If you have any questions about this, you may contact me by posting on my livejournal site.

Someone should make a call on NANOG
(Anonymous)
2005-09-01 06:21 pm UTC (link)
If you need to get in touch with the operators you should send a feeler on NANOG. Odds are there is someone on that list that is appraised of the present situation.

Fiber repeater stations between your location and elsewhere are likely flooded, have no power and not have sufficient battery backup. These locations could very well be miles away.

I have no clue what you are going through but I might in the very near future. I might be one of those National Guard members coming down to help. The National Guard is doing the best they can right now. You will never know if the person you see in uniform is active duty or guard. All the current emergency communications being provided my the military is coming from the guard. Good luck!

An airdrop takes a lot of coordination. Also a lot of supply. With the state of things down there, it would cause even more murder as people went crazy to get what was dropped.

The Dome is bordering on mob rule, don't go!
People heading to the dome are going to be there for days. The buses out seem to be like the helicopters that were supposed to drop sandbags, vapor.

As a human being I'd say you're welcome to anything in the building, just leave a note of thanks and a tally. It's more than most are doing.
The looters will choke on the non essentials they're taking. People taking chips and soda and leaving shelves of pb&j. Foolish.
We're pulling for you here in Austin.
Stay up for as long as you can Austin's geeksquad is trying to get your missives out to the world as quickly as possible.

DirectNIC DNS in N.O. or elsewhere?
(Anonymous)
2005-09-01 06:24 pm UTC (link)
If this has been addressed already I apologize. Is DirectNIC DNS only physically located at this data center in N.O.? When I trace from visualroute.com it goes to N.O. but when I trace from my network to ns1.directnic.com it's going to Atlanta. I assume DirectNIC surely has some out of state redundancy for their DNS? Just wondering as all of my company and personal domains are using DirectNIC for DNS.

Keep up the effort and the hope, you guys are very courageous!
