Diesel Situation
We have permission from the City and from FEMA to truck in diesel. We have the ability to take on 1300-1500 more gallons of diesel fuel. If you or anyone you know is capable of bringing us fuel, we will pay for it. It would be best if the delivery truck could navigate a parking garage, otherwise the unloading will be hours -- no idea how long it could take.

Thanks in advance,

Michael

Which implies that you have permission from the City and from FEMA to stay rather than get evacuated against your will like they're discussing, eh? Good deal.

You should probably post the clearance in the parking garage so that possible drivers can gauge if they can clear it or not.

good luck yall

they said they're closing down zephyr field. national guard has set up a depot there for food distribution and now, apparently, FEMA is trying to shut it down. the guardsman reported to his supervisor that it was one of the best things they had going right now. the national guard commander (?) radioed back that they where sending someone to the "FEMA trailer" immediately. sounds like total chaos.

How many gallons of fuel do you need per week to sustain operations? Just curious, as it sounds like you'll need to run on backup power for at least another month.

The figure of 15 gallons an hour was quoted earlier, so if they get this fuel it will give them four more days, on top of what they have now.

From South Australia, you have my thoughts. I'd send you diesel if I had any connections. What's your food situation like? I feel damn selfish I can go shower or eat at any time.

You have no idea what you're doing for people. You and your fiancee can expect a damn big wedding present from me!

Stay safe & secure, congrats on the permission for diesel.

truck parking garage
(Anonymous)
2005-09-01 02:58 pm UTC (link)
If you want potential senders of a truck to be able to figure out if they can navigate your parking garage, you need to post three salient pieces of data:

1) minimum vertical clearance (usually posted at the entrance and usually optimistic - check the path to your tank and MEASURE anything that looks dodgy)

2) width of the aisles in the parking garage

3) size of inscribed rectangular box of the tightest turn the truck will have to negotiate

Keep your power dry, Molon Labe!

I definitely agree with the warnings about this needing a lot of precaution..

judging from what little news we get it'd probably be a logistic nightmare to get a truck into town too, right?

Try contacting FEMA and ask them to ask the Navy (USS Bataan) to air lift a fuel bladder to you.

*keeping my fingers crossed on that one*

PS If you have to pay $20/gallon, try auctioning hurricane water on eBay?

Too many problems, drop it in the street and then what? Drag it inside? Or drop it on the roof and you only need to hump it, or the contents, down about 300 feet. Maybe if someone has a pickup they could drop it on the back. Then you'd need couplings and pumps and such. A delivery truck would be a whole lot easier if one can be found.

I gotta say this... Until the warzone calms down, any truck delivering diesel to you will be shooting off a flare for your location as well as possibly taking fire. I imagine you really don't want that right now. Not until order is established anyway.

Hang in there! Stay Tough!
