You guys want me to keep posting stuff? I don't know if I have any kind of special knowledge of the situation anymore, but I'll be happy to keep making observations if that helps anyone out there.

I've heard some 40,000 houses in St. Bernard Parish are flooded. Lots of people needing rescues.

I'll leave the live feed on, but there's nothing great to show and it's gonna get dark soon. When that happens, I'll amuse you all by turning the cam inward and embarrassing my ultrahot fiancee.

By the way, if anyone has news of Harahan, please lemme know.

Oh yeah, I was asked to post this:
NowPublic.com is providing a public service for those affected by Hurricane Katrina. We have set up a website that lets people send in photographs of those who go missing during the storm. We are asking others to contribute by posting a link to tool on their sites. Your assistance in this effort is greatly appreciated.

The Link to the site is here:

If any uptown or CBD or Quarter bars are open tonight that you know of, please list them here: We want to stretch our legs and start pumping money back into the economy.

Buff

If you're watching the cam, I've got it aimed at the downed trees blocking Poydras -- 2 guys on forklifts are moving them.

thank you for your efforts today. it was refreshing to see an undramatized account of such an impacting event for a change.

and, i am most glad that you and the datacenter came through okay.

Found you via [info]insomnia. Always nice to have a firsthand account of things. I'd say, if you go out tonight or so and see remarkable stuff, I'd be nice to read. On cnn we just ge the most spectacular pictures they can find (which isn't much right now). And the effects of not having power or water are, well, hard to imagine for me I guess. Stuff I wouldn't have thought about etc.

BTW: if I read you correctly your job isn't babysitting the datacenter right now, you just got trapped and figured work was the safest spot?

I don't think "remarkable" is a word I would use so much as "horrible".

Please keep posting, even if it's just "Found an open bar and drank like mad. Their toilets weren't working either so no #2 for me."
It's nice to have a level-headed, objective report of what it's like.

I'd appreciate observations of what you see. If you do go out and about, let us know how many folks rode it out like you all did.

Thanks for being an LJ reporter - I think you did help keep panic down for some.

It's been nice to watch, and read. Found you from LJ_spotlight.
My grandparents live in Mobile and I am all the way in Oregon. So it's nice to see people are doing alright and not being as dramatic as CNN and The Weather Channel. It's hard to know what to do when you're so far away.
