Crystal made some chicken breast and cheese sandwiches on the George Foreman Grill. Not a bad breakfast. Ok, winds have picked back up some and the direction has changed mostly to north to south. Most of the windows on our building have two layers, glass outside and plastic inside. Some have completely broken, but our offices have a few with the glass broken but hanging on slamming against the plastic.

I'm telling you though, if there's no flooding, the city will be fine. This can't be any worse than cleaning up after Mardi Gras. So far. I'm hearing reports of an 18 foot storm surge, but who knows.

There's a sports car on the street in front of our building -- spanked. No windows left, debris in the back seat, etc.

Rain has picked up too now.

Looks like Benson is getting his retractable-roofed stadium after all ;)

More in a bit.

Did you see the pics in my journal from this morning?
We got storm surge from hell, and we're 250 miles away!

Total stranger in another state, watching this in terror while waiting for friends to call or email.

So: I say thank you. Thank you for giving us updates of what's going on. If you're around in late Oct, I'll gladly buy you a beer.

You got it. Really, in New Orleans it's not nearly what it could have been. I can't speak for the rest od the area though.

Does the office building you're in have a sizable generator system because of the servers etc. inside it? It occurs to me that you shouldn't have any power right now otherwise.

I don't suppose you can see up towards Louis Armstrong Park from where you are? [info]scyllacat lives up that way and her last post indicated that the building next door had collapsed... That was the last anyone's heard from her.

No, that's a ways away. The wind is going down though, so if her building can take another hour or so, she should be set.

I grew up in New Orleans. My entire family still lives there. They are all safe in various places such as central LA, Texas, Arkansas.

It seems that the worst of the storm missed NOLA. Reports from Gulport/Biloxi are dire. I think people will realize how lucky the city got once again and will evacuate if threatened again especially if those reports of people stuck on their roofs in St. Bernard are true.

ROTFLMAO - I don't know why...but reading the bit about the sports car has me in stiches...lol

I need to use the word 'spanked' like that.
