Just popped into #interdictor on freenode on some freakish chance we need it again.

Will poke around at the old crew to see who is about.

I've heard that Governor Jindal has already declared an emergency and mobilized the National Guard. Looks like Louisiana might be able to take care of itself better this time around rather than depending on the federal government, which isn't supposed to be a first responder anyway.

Good Gods I hope not. Or there goes my xmas holiday trip. I'm hoping it will hit us in Houston. We haven't had one in awhile any way.

I followed this blog through the first disaster and went back to read some of the first entries all over again.

Just thought I would drop back in.

Good luck, New Orleans...

New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Just what we needed! The swimming pool that NO could be may be once again. I guess the good news is not alot of the Mississippi Gulf Coast has been rebuilt yet so not as much to be destroyed.

I have water, batteries for my radio, tv and FAN!!! Yep found a fan at BB&Y for 20 bucks that runs off batteries! Will make life livable (I hope).

Gustav is verging on a 5 right now. I have relatives in Alabama, Texas and I'm in Mississippi. Gonna hit some of us. My mom's nursing home outside Port Arthur has already evacuated to a Junior college. My aunt in PA has her windows covered, cousin in Beaumont has battened down and my father in Houston is just pacing the floor. My mom-in-law in Alabama should be okay.

And then there is Hanna. Unfortunately in Jackson we will probably get it worse than in Katrina and that was bad enough. As they say we are on the dirty side of the storm. Katrina's eye passed just to the east of us.

Glad you posted. I've been thinking about you and NO. Remembering all your blogs after Katrina. Made for very interesting reading. With a little fleshing out it would make a great book.

turns out Gustav was bad but I should have been more worried about Ike. Once again all the relatives where at the center. Poor mom was evacuated once again and this time for almost 2 weeks. Dad lost his power and had a little roof damage and fence down but nothing like the rest of the Houston area. PA aunt moved to Beaumont where there was damage to the house and no power for 2 weeks. Her home in PA had NO DAMAGE! It is 4 blocks from the seawall! Here's hoping we are done for this year!

I looked up the projected path of Gustav and path of Katrina,

Katrina's path was like a roller coaster. It hit the tip of Florida first, went down to the center of the Gulf and then curved back up to New Orleans.

The projected path of Gustav is obviously direct, once it gets past Cuba. Slightly west of NO. A straight shot to Baton Rouge

This entire LJ is still here, so everyone has a place to go look for all the online resources built for the *last* go-round.

Thanks, Mike.

Let me recommend http://www.flhurricane.com, among others; it has the best storm wrap-up pages I've ever seen.

There are probably some good pages in the *history* of the Katrina page at wikipedia with useful links as well...

Wow, three years almost to the day later and there's another nasty one aimed at NO. You guys still affiliated with a NOC out there? More blow-by-blow coverage for Gustav? Hopefully it won't be needed, hopefully the storm will smash in further west...

I followed your blog throughout Katrina, and I was desperately testing my memory today to remember your e-mail address. Happy to hear about your new life and your new baby!

Hopefully, N.O. will be spared a repeat of three years ago, but one never knows what Mother Nature will do. Fortunately, my parents are no longer in Algiers, but I will still be watching the surge patterns into the Westbank. It may not be pretty.

I have told my friends in London (where I live now!) about your 'hurricane supply list', which you guys provided having lived in N.O. after Katrina for so many weeks. Could you re-post it?

Thanks, and best of luck to you, the mum and the baby!!

The guys at directNIC.com have a new site up to post updates/pictures from the new storm.

http://gustavbloggers.com/

Just a WP site and not much info there yet. Go over there and encourage them to post all the gritty details like during Katrina.
