You're right, there is no one shooting up malls in other American cities. And by the way that was last week's negative news you could have posted about New Orleans. Yesterday we got hit by a tornado. You're slipping. Yes New Orleans has a long way to go and is stumbling getting there, but all these problems existed before Katrina. It just took a hurricane for the nation to notice. I'm glad you are happier where you ended up, but there are plenty of us that wouldn't leave this town for anywhere else and have a positive outlook for the long run of things. Sorry, but New Orleans is going to be here for a while. Happy Valentines Day. Happy Mardi Gras.

What's the point of this comment -- to equate the crime in New Orleans to the crime of other cities? Want to really ruin Mardi Gras? Show the unfudged crime statistics for the city. The fudged, published statistics already put it as the number one murder per capita city in North America.

You can bury your head in the sand, but don't expect others to join you. New Orleans is a shithole now. How many more rallies and funerals do you have to go to to wake up?

	am I the only one that sees this (sadly) as just another crime? I found the fact that she's 44, actually old enough to be his mom, and doing this more surprising. 	i'm not sure that new orleans is finished at all. jaenanda is correct. new orleans has been through it's ups and downs. when my mama was in college it was scary as hell, huge murder rate, etc. when i was there in high school in the mid to late 80's it was much safer and cleaner. then by the time i left after college it was getting bad
