Just Say No To College Football Playoffs
Dan Wetzel is leading the charge against the BCS in favor of a playoff system. What he and most people who support this scheme don't understand is that such a system will end up with 2-4 teams from the SEC in the semi-finals year in and year out. All SEC championship games would not be uncommon; this year, for instance, likely would have seen LSU playing Florida for the Championship. How many of the other conferences are going to tolerate a system of true merit over fraud and hype for more than a couple of years? Answer: Just the SEC and a couple of Cinderella Conferences on the bottom looking to startle the world with a mighty upset.

Conclusion: You're not gonna see a Div I-A playoff until they come up with a scheme to limit SEC teams from participating.

"Honestly, we've played a lot better teams than them," Florida defensive end Jarvis Moss said. "I could name four or five teams in the SEC that could probably compete with them and play the same type of game we did against them."

It's like how Auburn got left out of the BCS bowls this year because there were already two SEC teams going to the BCS, and ironically, Auburn beat both of them during the regular season.

Step outside the box and take a clear look of the National picture. USC would have steamrolled Flordia, or any other SEC team. Strong conference year in year out? Of course. Head & shoulders above the rest of D-1? Heck no. Be realistic here.

USC? Be real. USC would be a 3 loss team every year in the SEC. Especially this year.

There is such a scheme: playoff berths. Assuming only a 16 or 32-team field, there's no way more than one or two teams from any conference would get into the playoffs.

Of course you'll get a lot of bitching and moaning from schools that didn't get selected, just like what happens in the NCAA basketball tourney. But even if the SEC dominated every year, it would still be a better system than letting computer nerds determine the championship teams.
